Stained Glass

Linda Munoz, stained glass artist

I have been a stained glass artist since 1980.   That was the year that my husband, Charlie and I bought a house in Cuba, Alabama, which was built before the Civil War.  I wanted to fill the house with stained glass windows, so I took a class with Bill Cummings of the North School in Nashville.  My interest in glass led me to Mosaic Art and Kiln Fused Glass.  I studied advanced glass fusing at the John C. Campbell Folk School in 2006. I have taught the art of Mosaics to children and adults for the last 6 years.  More recently I have been teaching Fused Glass Jewelry at Orbix Glass in Ft. Payne, Alabama, and at my glass studio, Cotton Patch Art Studio in York, Alabama.   I will be teaching mosaic art to adults at the new Alabama Folk School at Camp McDowell this September.

My husband and I are currently building a new studio near Lookout Mountain in Cherokee County, AL.  I will be teaching classes and making glass art there in the very near future!

My fused jewelry consists of layers of compatible glass fused together at very high temperatures in a glass kiln.  I use a type of glass known as "Dichroic". Originally produced for the aerospace industry, dichroic glass has a special coating which is placed on the glass using a highly technical vacuum deposition process.  The main characteristic of the glass is that it has a transmitted color and a completely different reflective color.  These two colors shift and blend depending on the angle to the light at which you view the piece.  I enjoy using the same glass in my large fused bowls and panels.

You can view my work at several galleries and shops in Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia:

Mountain Mama's Gallery in Cloudland, GA
Orbix Glass in Fort Payne, AL
Kentuck Gallery in Northport, AL
Bear Creek Glass Gallery in Birmingham, AL
Blackwood Gallery in Springville, AL
Black Belt Treasures in Camden, AL
Lucus Road Gallery in Meridian, MS.
