UNIQUE GIFTS AT MOUNTAIN MAMAS

WEDDINGS, ANNIVERSARIES, FATHER’S DAY, and all other special occasions will lead you to Mountain Mamas Crafts and Rock Shop for the PERFECT GIFT! With more than 60 women artists (local & regional) we are full, floor to ceiling, with more handmade items than ever before. Don’t forget gifts for GRADUATION, house-warming, hostess, shower or birthday, or maybe a gift for yourself!

Want the PERFECT FATHER’S DAY GIFT for that Dad who has everything? It’s a beautifully beaded fishing lure key chain or hanging ornament. And, yes, the hooks have been removed. These one-of-a-kind creations are handwoven by Annabelle Leitner, the Mountain Mamas rug weaver.

Morgana MacVicar, Mountain Mamas potter, has PAINTED FLOOR AND PLACE MATS in a display at the Shop. The mats are made from recycled vinyl ends which Morgana paints with flowers, fruits, or cats. Each mat is then coated with 4 layers of polyurethane. This makes them durable and easy to clean. They may be used in the kitchen, bath, or as a welcome mat. If you recall the Dish Restaurant, one mat was just inside their door for 4 years!

Two of these are FABRIC ARTIST Patricia (Pat) Harlow and STAINED GLASS & MOSAIC ARTIST Linda Munoz.

In May of 2002 Pat and her husband, Jim, moved to a new home in the Mentone area. They say that one of the best things about living here is "being closer to our six grandsons and their parents." As a FABRIC ARTIST, Pat has a variety of cloth items for sale at Mountain Mamas. Examples–pillow cases for children (which are unusual), baby quilts, holiday napkins & place mats, and giant pillow fish! During a recent visit to Mountain Mamas, Pat shared some of her "herstory" with fabric.

"My grandmother taught me to sew on her White treadle sewing machine. I was about 5 years old. Yes, I got my fingers stuck with more than one needle! She also taught me to do all kinds of hand work, which I will enjoy doing until I can’t use a needle.

"My mother loved to sew when she was younger and had two girls at home. Then she learned to paint and sewing wasn’t exciting any more. The only picture I ever ‘painted’ was with fabric. My sister is a professional potter.

"Sometimes I think I have done it all--baby things, doll dresses, wedding dress, bridesmaids’ outfits, prom gowns, draperies, clothes, and quilts (before it was the ‘in’ thing). Then I get inspired by something I see and I am off on another project. I am always eager to learn new and different techniques and ways to use fabric, color and design. Unfortunately, I have more ideas in my head than my fingers have time to produce. But, sewing has always been a part of my life and I love the colors and feel of fabric."

STAINED GLASS & MOSAIC ARTIST, Linda Munoz, lives at the end of a dirt road in a house built before the Civil War in Cuba, Alabama. They also have a week-end place in Mentone. She and her husband, Charlie, are both artists and maintain a studio in their barn. Linda has been making stained glass panels for over 20 years. She took a glass course when she and her husband bought their home, because she knew she wanted to fill it with glass. A retired registered nurse, she now spends some time every day making mosaic pieces and stained glass
